Western Smoke

December 22nd UPDATE:  Western Smoke worked his first 5 furlongs by himself in 1:02.0 (31 of 76) at Santa Anita. Craig said he was under a big hold, finished strong and had a good gallop out. He continues to move in the right direction and does everything the right way. We are still pointing to the January 4th race, but with rains coming all next week, we will see. Smoke is doing well.

December 16th UPDATE:  Western Smoke breezed by himself this morning going his first half mile in 49.2 (23 of 37) on the main track at Santa Anita. Craig said he went well, under a snug hold with an exercise rider in the saddle. We will try and comeback in another 6 days with his second 4 furlongs and then follow with a 5 furlongs blow out; with Tyler Baze up. Craig said he is pleased with the progress.

December 10th UPDATE:  Western Smoke had a good three furlongs breeze this morning by himself going 36.4 on Craig’s watch at Santa Anita. Craig said; "Smoke once again was well in hand as he galloped out 4 furlongs in 49.1."  Craig was very pleased with the move. The plan is for him to come back in 6-7 days to work 4 furlongs and we are pointing to a possible race on January 4th.

November 29th UPDATE:  Western Smoke has been doing well and will work 3 furlongs on December 2nd at Santa Anita. He has grown up the right way physically and we are pointing him a race at the upcoming Santa Anita meet.  We will have more updates as he moves forward with his works.

October 17th UPDATE:  Western Smoke is back in training and getting close to a work at Santa Anita. Craig says he has grown up and put on muscle since the time off for sore shins. We are looking with excitement toward his return and I will keep you updated as he gets closer to a breeze. Smoke will probably be heading down to Del Mar in early November.

August 1 UPDATE: Entry:  Western Smoke was scratched from the 5th race at Del Mar on Sunday August 4th.

July 29th  UPDATE:  Western Smoke work 5 furlongs from the gate with Joe Talamo, broke good while going 1:01.3 (12 of 40); according to the clockers. He broke off in company and completely left his work mate by about 10 lengths once they reached the half mile pole and again galloped out strong. Craig and I had him a full second faster but either way another good work. He was gate approved and looking at possible races on Sunday, August 4th or two other possible Maiden special races the following week. I will have more information in a day or two.
